The new artificial turf fields at the Ed Defore sports complex were long overdue for Bibb County athletics. Especially for one sport in particular.
"Especially as far as soccer was concerned, our field was not good enough for our kids to play on," said athletic director Barney Hester. "But now it will be. We are doing the field, concession stands, restroom and all that stuff. It will be a first rate first class facility."
With top notch facilities popping up all across the state, the county had to step up with its ESPLOST money, giving their athletes something to be proud of.
"I can promise you, based off of all the research we did prior to putting this turf in, we will have one of the best turf products and the best facilities to host a outdoor event as anybody in the country," Hester said.
Upon completion both fields at Ed Defore Park will feature AstroTurf Rootzone 3D3 52 artificial turf and Brock Powerbase, making these fields top in the country in safety, performance, and durability.
