Ground Breaks on Memorial Stadium in Griffin-Spalding
Ground breaks this week on Memorial Stadium in Griffin, Georgia, as the natural grass field is undergoing transformation to one of the safest and most durable artificial turf systems in the Southeast. Upon completion, the home of both the Jaguars and the Bears will feature Brock Powerbase YSR shock pad, AstroTurf's Rootzone 3D3 Blend, with BrockFILL.
Brock Powerbase YSR will be installed underneath the artificial turf and on top of the stone base. The revolutionary shock pad technology features large drainage channels, shock absorbing structures, and 25mm thickness provide both player safety and effective drainage.
AstroTurf’s RootZone 3D3 Blend, a performance artificial turf system that combines slit film and monofilament fibers for optimum durability and visual appeal will be installed on top of the Brock Powerbase YSR pad. It is highlighted by AstroTurf’s RootZone sub-layer, a texturized fiber that stabilizes infill and improves shock absorbency. This synthetic turf system will provide exceptional force reduction to reduce incidence of concussions and cleat interaction that better replicates well-maintained natural grass playing fields to reduce incidence of injuries to lower extremities.
Instead of the usual crumb rubber, Memorial Stadium will feature the latest in alternative infill. BrockFILL is the latest and greatest alternative infill in the synthetic turf world. BrockFILL is harvested from a prolific species of trees and specifically engineered using special equipment during the manufacturing process to remove long particles that could become splinters. A successive conditioning process also buffs and smooths particles into a non-abrasive infill.
The unique properties of wood make BrockFILL significantly cooler than crumb rubber, even without irrigation. The particles are naturally hydrophilic, so they absorb rainwater and condensation to their core. The moisture is slowly released from the particles for extended cooling. This characteristic also makes BrockFILL particles heavy enough to sink, so they won't float away in the rain.
This field will raise the bar for performance, safety, playability and durability of synthetic turf fields in the Southeast.
