Villa Rica High School Celebrates New Stadium with a Virtual Ground Breaking

Sports Turf Company is excited to break ground on Villa Rica High School's stadium renovation through a virtual event on Friday, Dec. 4 at 12 pm EST. Hosted by Sports Turf (@STCFieldBuilder) via Facebook Live, the “community event” will include a message from Carroll County School System Superintendent Scott Cowart and Villa Rica High School Principal Seth Rogers.

The stadium project was designed by Southern A&E, LLC and will be built by two west Georgia-based companies. J&R Construction will serve as the construction manager and Sports Turf Company will be the subcontractor for the field and track renovation. Once completed, Sam McIntyre Stadium will feature a new artificial turf field, a synthetic running track, home bleachers, concessions, restroom facilities, and expanded parking adjacent to the stadium.

“We are excited to celebrate the start of the stadium project with the Villa Rica Community. Our goal is to create a premier complex for students, their families, and our community to enjoy for many years to come,” stated Superintendent Cowart.

The new artificial turf field at Sam McIntyre Stadium will feature AstroTurf’s RootZone 3D3 Blend turf system, Brock Powerbase YSR shock pad, and BrockFILL. AstroTurf’s RootZone 3D3 Blend is a performance artificial turf system that combines slit film and monofilament fibers for optimum durability. The revolutionary Brock Powerbase YSR shock pad technology features large drainage channels, shock-absorbing structures and 25mm thickness to improve player safety and provide more effective drainage. BrockFILL is the latest in alternative infills and is sustainably grown and harvested in Georgia. The unique properties of the wood infill, BrockFILL, decreases field temperatures and gives the feel of a more natural surface with increased traction and footing for athletes.

The renovation to the track will include expanding the existing six-lanes to eight and the installation of new synthetic surfacing. The Rekortan BS synthetic track surface will endure higher wear and traffic along with providing enhanced force reduction for athletes.

“The Sports Turf team is pleased to have an opportunity to provide Villa Rica student-athletes with the safest and most durable field,” said Sports Turf Company President, Todd Wiggins. “It is important to celebrate the kick-off of the field construction with Villa Rica students, parents, coaches, and school staff, and we are excited to join safely together online.”

Villa Rica Principal, Seth Rogers added, “J&R Construction and Sports Turf will provide our students with the highest caliber surfaces and the most innovative facilities around West GA, hosting a variety of athletic events. Our community always looks forward to coming together to enjoy watching and cheering for high school sports, and we are excited to virtually witness the groundbreaking of this exciting project.”
