Sports Turf Wins First Place Honors in the 2024 AGC Build Georgia Awards

Sports Turf Company, a specialty sports construction and surfacing company, is excited to announce that it has received first-place honors for the Ware County Miracle League of the Okefenokee Field of Dreams by the 2024 AGC Build Georgia Awards Program. This is the eighth consecutive year that the firm has been recognized by the statewide Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America, Inc.

“We’re honored to receive recognition on this project that allows inclusivity for the communities athletes, while also providing a safe facility to compete,” said Sports Turf Company President Todd Wiggins. “Our team takes pride in every facility that we build, but this one is especially special to us because of the huge impact it had for the community. We truly think that this system will change the way Parks and Recreation look at Miracle League systems nationwide.

The Miracle League of the Okefenokee baseball and softball field renovation allows players from Ware and seven surrounding counties to transcend their mental or physical disabilities while participating in the game of baseball. The new surface provides accessibility for wheelchairs and allows pristine field conditions in any weather. The surface has dual use as a softball or baseball field, while meeting the needs of the Miracle League.

“From our very first meeting with Sports Turf, they were supportive of our vision and provided innovative, state-of-the-art solutions to serve of Miracle League wheelchair players and able-bodied players alike,” said Berry Tanner, President of the Miracle League of the Okefenokee. “I can’t say enough positive things about the people at Sports Turf from Coach Musselwhite to Hunter Bloedow to Megan Brown to the President, Todd Wiggins.

Sports Turf Company installed a Diamond Series turf system by AstroTurf, the inventor of synthetic turf and the original synthetic system for baseball fields across the nation. This project utilized its latest synthetic turf technology, Brock Powerbase YSR shock pad and organic, temperature reducing BrockFILL infill. The system will reduce rainouts and can endure high traffic with little downtime, while providing a consistent, wheelchair-accessible playing surface.
