Sports Turf to Construct Running Track and Field Facility at the University of West Alabama

Sports Turf Company, a specialty sports construction and surfacing company, is proud to announce it has been awarded the running track and field athletic facility at the University of West Alabama in Livingston, AL. The scope of the project will include the construction of an 8-lane running track and field events, natural grass soccer field, lighting, locker rooms, fencing, and concrete work.

Sports Turf will construct an 8-lane running track on the University of West Alabama’s campus as well as a shotput pad and landing area, long jump/ triple jump runway and hammer throw pad to accommodate collegiate events.  The tigers’ new running track facility will feature the World-Class Surfacing, Rekortan M99. The IAAF approved, impermeable track surface, Rekortan M99, is installed by first paving the basemat layer of the sandwich style system. The base layer consisting of SBR rubber granules bound in polyurethane is topped with a seal coat, fluid polyurethane topcoat and a broadcast of EPDM rubber granules. The Olympic Level surfacing features APT’s unique polyurethane micro-foam that significantly increases force reduction, making it a top surface in the world.

“The University of West Alabama is committed to providing high-quality athletic facilities for their student athletes,” said Sports Turf Company President Todd Wiggins. “We’re excited to help them achieve this, by providing quality surfaces backed by three decades of expertise in the athletic construction industry.”

Sports Turf will also construct a high-level natural grass soccer field inside the Tigers’ new 8-lane running track. The field will feature an eight-inch USGA sand rootzone over a gravel blanket with lateral drain lines. TifTuf Bermudagrass will be installed to increase the durability of the stadium’s playing surface and to help with maintenance due to this variety’s lower need for water and fertilizer to provide a high-quality field. This elite natural grass field will be able to receive a large amount of rain and traffic while remaining playable all season.
