Sports Turf Wins First Place Honors in Two Categories in AGC Build Georgia Awards

Sports Turf Company, a specialty sports construction and surfacing company, is excited to announce that it has received first-place honors for the renovations at Brookstone School’s Mack Strong Stadium and Five Columbia County Schools by the 2023 AGC Build Georgia Awards Program. This is the seventh consecutive year that the firm has been recognized by the statewide Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America, Inc.

“We’re honored to receive recognition on both of these projects, as they’ve had a big impact on their communities,” said Sports Turf Company President Todd Wiggins. “Both Columbia County and Brookstone received facilities with industry leading surfacing that focuses on safety, durability, and performance for their athletes. We know that these facilities will continue to make a difference for their athletic programs for many years.”

Brookstone School’s field features an eight-inch USGA sand rootzone over a gravel blanket with lateral drain lines. The TifTuf Bermudagrass was installed to increase the durability of the stadium’s playing surface and to help with maintenance due to this variety’s lower need for water and fertilizer to provide a high-quality field. This elite natural grass field can receive a large amount of rain and traffic while remaining playable all season.

In addition, Sports Turf constructed a new 8-lane running track and events around the perimeter of the stadium field. The Rekortan BS track surfacing is a World Athletics certified, 13mm, permeable basemat structural spray polyurethane track system focused on consistent footing and force reduction for athletes.

Sports Turf Company renovated all five Columbia County high schools’ existing natural grass fields into artificial turf that surpasses other systems in terms of safety, durability, and performance. The artificial turf system features AstroTurf’s RootZone 3D3 HD turf system, Brock YSR shock pad, and BrockFILL organic infill. AstroTurf’s RootZone 3D3 turf combines slit film and monofilament fibers with a RootZone layer of texturized fibers for optimum durability and better shock absorbency. The Brock YSR shock pad and BrockFILL are specifically engineered to optimize safety for athletes during impacts to the surface. BrockFILL is the latest in alternative infills and is sustainably grown and harvested in Georgia.

In addition, Rekortan M synthetic track surfacing was installed at the five facilities. Rekortan M is a World Athletics-certified, impermeable system featuring two distinct layers. This system delivers force reduction, ensures stability for predictable footing, and is sealed to protect against moisture intrusion.
