Sports Turf Company, a specialty sports construction and surfacing company, is proud to announce it has been awarded the renovation of Auburn University’s softball field. Sports Turf staff is already on site constructing both the indoor artificial turf field and the two natural grass fields at the football practice facility.
The renovation of the softball field at Auburn University includes removing and installing new artificial turf behind home plate and extending it to include foul territory on both sides. With the extension of the artificial turf areas, Sport Turf will be updating the grades and changing the slopes to improve the playability and performance of the field. The outfield grass will also be removed and replaced with TifTuf Bermuda Grass. TifTuf Bermudagrass will be installed due to its ability to establish faster and recover quickly during season. Infill mix will be replaced on the infield to top off the renovation to the Tiger’s home field.
“We’re excited to continue our work enhancing Auburn University’s athletic facilities,” said Sports Turf Company President Todd Wiggins. “The enhancements being made on the softball field may seem little in scope, but they will improve the fields playability, performance and overall aesthetic.”
Sports Turf is currently on site as well at the football practice facility constructing the indoor artificial turf field and two natural grass fields. The artificial turf field will include a turf system focused on safety, enhanced performance, and improved footing specifically for college athletes. The artificial turf system will feature AstroTurf’s Rhino Blend 48 turf system and Brock Powerbase Pro shock pad. AstroTurf’s Rhino Blend 48 turf system is an artificial turf system that combines slit film and monofilament fibers providing the field with the best of both worlds, durability, and aesthetics. The Brock Powerbase Pro shock pad is engineered to optimize safety for athletes, specifically NCAA and NFL athletes, during impacts to the surface. The precisely designed shock pad provides a firmer surface allowing athletes to get in and out of cuts quicker, while reducing lower extremity injuries.
Sports Turf is installing a full underdrain system, sand-based rootzone and irrigation system on both natural grass fields. The underdrain system and sand-based rootzone will help move water away at a faster rate allowing the Tigers to practice after intense rainfall. These elite natural grass field are designed to withstand high amounts of traffic and rainfall and remain in great condition for practices throughout the season.
