Sports Turf Company Hosts Virtual Ribbon Cutting to Celebrate the Completion of Clarke Central High School Field and Track

Sports Turf Company, a specialty sports construction and surfacing company, is excited to showcase Billy Henderson Stadium’s state-of-the-art field and running track through a virtual ribbon cutting on Friday, April 16 at 1:00 pm. Hosted by Sports Turf (@STCFieldBuilder) via Facebook Live, the “community event” will include words of encouragement from Clarke County School Director of Facility Planning and Construction, John Gilbreath and Clarke Central High School Athletic Director Jon Ward, as well as an up-close view of the new track and field.

Clarke Central High School utilizes the stadium for a number of activities, including football, track, soccer, band and more.

“The Sports Turf team is excited to showcase Clarke County High School’s renovated stadium to the community and its student-athletes,” said Sports Turf Company President Todd Wiggins. “The long awaited renovation features a higher performing, safer and more durable playing surface. Not only that, the organic wood based infill in the artificial turf system has them incorporated from trees that surrounded the original complex, which is a subtle celebration of the history of Clark Central’s incredible sports program.”

Billy Henderson Stadium’s field features AstroTurf Rootzone Blend HD Artificial Turf, Brock Powerbase YSR shock pad, and BrockFILL. The dense, three-fiber turf artificial turf system adds a RootZone layer of texturized fibers that encapsulates infill, provides better shock absorbency and less infill migration or “rubber splash” than traditional systems. The revolutionary Brock Powerbase YSR shock pad technology features large drainage channels, shock-absorbing structures and 25mm thickness to improve player safety and provide more effective drainage. The artificial turf infill, BrockFILL, is a highly engineered wood particle infill specifically designed to improve traction and reduce artificial turf heat. The organic infill was derived from the trees that have surrounded the field since its inception, honoring the deep-rooted history of the sports program and paying homage to the rich community of Athens, Ga.

Sports Turf Company renovated the existing Clarke Central High School track and expanded the running surface to eight lanes to accommodate hosting track meets. Sports Turf milled the existing asphalt, expanded the track with new asphalt and installed a Rekortan G-13 Track Surface.

“Sports Turf has enhanced our stadium to a new level to help propel football in Clarke County and all athletics programs to a new level of excellence, success and prestige,” said Ward. “Our students, teachers, staff and community as a whole are very excited to see the track and field come together and watch our athletes play in this stadium for many years to come.”

Sports Turf specializes in the construction and installation of all different types of sport surfaces, including natural grass and artificial turf fields, tennis courts and track surfaces. In addition, Sports Turf Company serves as a consultant and owner’s advocate through the entire process of selecting the best facility solutions and surfaces to meet owners’ specific needs.
