The weather cooperated Thursday afternoon at South Effingham High School. Sunny and comfortable. A blue sky with occasional puffs of wind.
A perfect day for a track and field meet.
A perfect day for unveiling a perfect setting -- the Mustangs’ new track. The boys and girls of South Effingham, Effingham County and Woodville-Tompkins were the first to line up in the starting blocks.
The ECHS girls and SEHS boys captured the first team victories. But local track and field athletes will be the overall winners for years to come.
Both South Effingham High School and Effingham County High School had their new track surfaces and subsurfaces built by the Sports Turf Company Inc., which operates out of Whitesburg, Ga.
The tracks were funded with SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) monies voted on during the 2016 election.
